Bits and Pieces

It's been a busy couple of weeks with work at the middle and elementary schools, plus website work and private lessons, but I did want to blog about some little things from the past couple of weeks, since I've been lazy about updating the blog lately.

• First off, The Long Trip Home and its Quebec Spotlight went up a couple of weeks ago! It's taken me almost a year to get my act together about this issue, so I'm glad to have it up, finally! With all of the grunting and groaning I did about getting the issue together, the satisfaction of seeing the site, new and brimming with colorful photos, interesting writing, and updated text is always enough to make the stumbles along the way worth while. Thanks, editing staff: Corrie, Cathy, and Paul!

Our next issue should also be really fun: the spotlight theme is Local Festivals, and we've already gotten some interesting submissions as a result. Definitely consider contributing! In the meantime, enjoy our latest issue.

• Speaking of local festivals, what did YOU do for Fat Tuesday and Carnevale? Antonello and I didn't make much of the holiday, but my friends Cyndi and Lori both took their own little journeys to Venezia to partake in the festivities. Yes, I'm jealous. Still, go read about their adventures, and check out their photos--ALMOST enough to think you were there yourself! (Someone throw some confetti on me, please!)

• And, finally--I bought my ticket! I'm taking a three-day trip north to Dublin (Dublino, as the Italians say) the weekend before Saint Patrick's Day to meet up with my good friend Allison and one of her friends from school. I can't wait! It's the perfect little break--just what I need amidst these long, bleak days between Christmas and Easter break at the school--and, although I've been to Dublin once before, I remember so little that I wonder if I was really in Dublin, Ireland and not Dublin, Ohio (is there a Dublin, Ohio?). This next week will mean reading up about Dublin, and perhaps revisiting The Long Trip Home's March 2002 Ireland Spotlight, especially this photo journal. Can't wait to speak completely in English, see the beautiful city of Dublin, and duck into shops and pubs to escape the certain chance of rain that would accompany any Irish trip. Hopefully there will be plenty of rainbows.

That's it for now. Have a wonderful weekend.
